– Περιγραφή–

Αυτό το παράδειγμα μεταφέρει τη μεγάλη εικόνα. Ένα μικρό άγγιγμα μεταφέρει το χορό των δονήσεων της εσωτερικής ζωής και της εσωτερικής μουσικής. Το δώρο της βαρύτητας, εμείς, οι μικρότεροι (SMALLER) ερμηνευτές μοιραζόμαστε τις εσωτερικές και εξωτερικές επιδράσεις της κοινωνικής αλλαγής. Δίνουμε χορό εκεί όπου ένα απτό άγγιγμα μπορεί να ισοδυναμεί με ένα άυλο αποτέλεσμα. Αόρατες συνδέσεις αγγίζουν και αποσαφηνίζουν, συγχέουν και ανακαλύπτουν το ήδη υπάρχον, ότι είναι ήδη εκεί.

“The Small Dance”, «μπορεί να είναι μικρότερο;» (SP)

Αυτή η επανάσταση της παρουσίας του σώματος είναι μια ήσυχη επανάσταση που αναπνέει. Είναι θριαμβευτική, χαρούμενη και άγρια. Καθώς κάνουμε αυτή τη βαθιά και σκληρή, προσωπική και συλλογική δουλειά για να να διεκδικήσουμε τα σώματά μας, μέσα από μια ανθρωπογενή θάλασσα συλλογικής απληστίας, καταστροφής του περιβάλλοντος, ανισότητας των φύλων, άγνοιας ως προς τη φυλή και θρησκευτικής προκατάληψης, χρειάζεται να αναρωτηθούμε, τι φέρνει η τέχνη και η ενσώματη εργασία μας στα κοινωνικά και περιβαλλοντικά κινήματα για την αλλαγή;

Στο SMALLER ακόμα και όταν θέτουμε αυτά τα ερωτήματα, ερμηνεύουμε με την πίστη ότι από την στιγμή που είμαστε μαζί στο χώρο και ασκούμαστε σε κατάσταση παρουσίας, είμαστε σε κοινοτική δράση. Τελικά, όλα/οι/ες  μας αυτοσχεδιάζουμε, όσα ερμηνεύουν και όσα/ όσες/ οι παρατηρούν την παράσταση. Η Βαρύτητα, αυτή η βαθιά και συνεχής αίσθηση που μας συνδέει με το σπίτι μας, είναι μια δύναμη που το καθένα/ ο καθένας/ η καθεμία μας βιώνει είτε της δίνουμε προσοχή είτε όχι. Η γη είναι πάντα εδώ. Η ουσία της δουλειάς μας ελπίζει να υλοποιήσει και να φωτίσει αυτή την βιωμένη αίσθηση στην κοινότητα.

 

– Αναλυτικό Πρόγραμμα–

Η εκδήλωση διαμορφώνεται σε δύο αλληλένδετα μεταξύ τους μέρη.

Μέρος 1 | Performance

Αυτή η εκδήλωση φέρνει τις διεθνείς προσκεκλημένες καλλιτέχνες-χορεύτριες και εισηγήτριες του Contact Improvisation, τη Nica Portavia και την Karen Nelson, για να παρουσιάσουν το ντουέτο τους “SMALLER” σε συνοδεία ζωντανής αυτοσχεδιαστικής μουσικής από τον Γιώργο Αμέντα.

Θα ακολουθήσει ένα βίντεο-αφιέρωμα μικρών αποσπασμάτων, «Clips of Steve to Dance With». Ανάμεσα σε κάθε ένα από αυτά τα σύντομα αποσπάσματα διαμορφώνεται ένας ανοιχτός χώρος αυτοσχεδιασμού, όπου όσα επιθυμούν να συμμετέχουν, καλούνται να «αναπαράγουν» το κλιπ: αντλώντας από αυτό που είδαν, ένιωσαν και βίωσαν, είτε σε σόλο είτε και με άλλους.

Το πρώτο αυτό παραστατικό μέρος ολοκληρώνεται με την πρακτική του Small Dance, καθοδηγούμενη από τη φωνή του Steve Paxton σε ηχογράφηση. Όλα τα άτομα ενθαρρύνονται να συμμετάσχουν.

 

Μέρος 2 | Jam

Ο χώρος διαμορφώνεται για ένα ανοιχτό Jam, αφομοίωσης της εμπειρίας, για όσα/ες/ους ενδιαφέρονται να κινηθούν και να αυτοσχεδιάσουν σε διάλογο με αυτοσχεδιαστική μουσική από τον Γιώργο Κοκκινάρη.

– Βιογραφικά –

Κaren Nelson

Η Karen (Chuki) Nelson (she/her), γεννημένη στο Μπρούκλιν της Νέας Υόρκης, ΗΠΑ, από  πρώτη και δεύτερη γενιά μεταναστών γονέων από τη Νορβηγία και την Ιρλανδία αντίστοιχα, κινείται παιγνιωδώς και ξεκούραστα μεταξύ του χορευτικού αυτοσχεδιασμού και της μελέτης και πρακτικής του βουδισμού. Ως  εξερευνήτρια-συνεργάτρια, δασκάλα, δημιουργός, περιοδεύουσα performer, συγγραφέας/συνεργάτης στο Dancing with Dharma και Contact Quarterly, υπήρξε συνδιαμορφώτρια της φόρμας του χο Contact Improvisation από το 1977. Είναι συνιδρύτρια των mixed-ability εγχειρημάτων, Dance Ability και Diverse Dance Research Retreat, και ενσωματώνει το Material for the Spine (Steve Paxton) και τα Tuning Scores (Lisa Nelson/ performance group Image Lab) στην προσωπική προσέγγισή της στο χορό, που βασίζεται στη σωματική αίσθηση, μαζί με την διερεύνηση των κυρίαρχων πολιτισμικών αφηγήσεων και τον επαναπροσδιορισμό αυτών των μυθοπλασίων μέσα στη δική της ενσωματη παρουσία και την ευρύτερη παγκόσμια κοινότητα. Νica Portavia

Η Nica Portavia (she/ they) γεννήθηκε στο Fano της Ιταλίας από Ιταλό πατέρα και μητέρα από το Λίβανο. Χορεύτρια, δασκάλα, ερευνήτρια και περφόρμερ, ανακάλυψε το Contact Improvisation το 2003, αφού πρώτα σπούδασε σύγχρονο χορό στην Ιταλία και τη Βαρκελώνη. Ερωτεύτηκε το Contact Improvisation από την πρώτη στιγμή, στη συνέχεια σπούδασε στο εξωτερικό με πολλούς δασκάλους του CI, μεταξύ των οποίων οι Steve Paxton, Daniel Lepkoff, Charlie Morrissey, Angelika Doney, Asaf Bacharach, KJ Holmes, Anya Cloud, Karen Nelson. Βουτώντας ολοκληρωτικά στην έρευνα του Μaterial for The Spine, είχε τη μεγάλη χαρά να μελετήσει με τον Steve Paxton. Στη διδασκαλία της ενσωματώνει το Tatto Interno (Deep Touch) δίνοντας έμφαση στη σχέση μεταξύ της περιτονίας και του νευρικού συστήματος. Διδάσκει σε Γαλλία,  Ουκρανία,  Ιταλία,  Ισπανία και  Αργεντινή, Ρωσία, Πολωνία, Γερμανία, Λιθουανία, Πορτογαλία, ΗΠΑ, Μεξικό. Η παράσταση 'SottoSale' περιόδευσε στην Ρωσία και την Ιταλία (2019-21). Αυτή τη στιγμή πραγματοποιούν παραστάσεις με την Karen Nelson, προτείνοντας μια έρευνα-διαλογισμό-τελετουργία με την ονομασία SMALLER στη Μπολόνια, τις ΗΠΑ και το Μεξικό. Διοργανώνει πολλά project, μεταξύ των οποίων και το διεθνές Italy Contact Fest που λαμβάνει χώρα εδώ και 11 χρόνια (www.italycontactfest.com) και το Being Touch Festival «a radical journey into CI» (www.beingtouch.org).

– Description –

This example carries the big picture. A small touch carries the vibration dance of inside life and inside music. The gift of gravity, we SMALLER performers share the inside and outside impacts of social change, the wealth. We give dance where a tangible touch can equal an intangible result. And invisible communications touch and clarify, confuse, and discover the already there.

Thanks to Steve Paxton (1939-2024) for his ground breaking practice of the small dance “can it be smaller?” (SP)

This revolution of body presence is a quiet, breathing one. It is an exultant, joyous and fierce one. As we do the deep, hard, personal and collective work to reclaim our bodies from a human-made sea of corporate greed, planet destruction, gender inequity and ignorance of race and religious prejudice, we have to ask, what does our art and embodiment labor bring to the social and environmental change movements? In SMALLER even as we question, we perform with the confidence that being in the room together practicing presence, we are in community action. Ultimately, we are all improvising, the performers and the observers of the performance. Gravity, the profound, constant sensation that connects us with our home, is a force we each experience whether giving attention to it or not. The earth is always here. The substance of our work hopes to materialize and illuminate that felt sense in community.

 

– Schedule –

 

The event is formed in two interconnected parts.

Part 1 | Performance

This event brings the international guest artists-dancers and CI facilitators Nica Portavia and Karen Nelson to present their short duet SMALLER, in dialogue with the improvisational music of George Amentas.

A tribute video, “Clips of Steve to Dance With” will follow. Between each of 5 short clips we will guide participants through a process where all are invited to “replay” the clip: drawing from what they saw, felt, and experienced, we will improvise in solo and with others.

This first performative part concludes with a Small Dance practice, led by Steve Paxton's voice on a recording. All individuals are encouraged to participate.

Part 2 | Jam

The space is set up for an open Jam, assimilating the experience, for those interested in moving and improvising, in dialogue with the improvisational music of George Kokkinaris.

Karen Nelson

Karen (Chuki) Nelson (she/her), born in Brooklyn, NY, USA to 1st and 2nd generation immigrant parents from Norway and Ireland respectively, plays restfully within dance improvisation and buddhist study and practice. As explorer-collaborator, teacher, maker, touring performer, author/contributor to

Dancing with Dharma and Contact Quarterly, she has been a mutator of the form

Contact Improvisation since 1977. She co-founded mixed-ability experiments Dance Ability and Diverse Dance Research Retreat and integrates Material for the Spine (Steve Paxton) and Tuning Scores (Lisa Nelson/ performance group Image Lab) into her physical-sensation based approach to dancing, along with investigating dominant cultural narratives and re-vers(ion)ing these fictions within her own embodiment and wider world community. Her lecture-dem participatory event “Unimaginable” invites dialogue into Contact Improvisation’s roots and ongoing development via the people who do it. Nica Portavia

Nica Portavia (she/they) was born in Fano, Italy from an Italian father and my mother from Lebanon. A dancer, teacher, researcher, and performer they discovered Contact Improvisation in 2003 after first training in contemporary dance in Italy and Barcelona. She fell in love with Contact Improvisation since the first moment, then studied abroad with many CI teachers including Steve Paxton, Daniel Lepkoff, Charlie Morrissey, Angelika Doney, Asaf Bacharach, KJ Holmes, Anya Cloud, Karen Nelson. Diving completely into Material for the Spine, she had the big pleasure to study with Steve Paxton. In her teaching she integrates Tatto Interno ( Deep Touch) ephasizing the relation between fascia and the nervous system. She teaches in France, Ukraine, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Russia, Poland, Germany, Lituania, Portugal, USA, Mexico. 'SottoSale' toured in Russia and Italy 2019-21, and they are currently performing with Karen Nelson a research-meditation-ritual called SMALLER in Bologna, USA, and Mexico.
